News from Christ Our Savior – Panama City Beach

Christ Our Savior in Panama City Beach, FL, has signed a one-year lease for afternoon use of their fellowship hall by a local nonprofit organization. Girls Inc., a program targeted at girls aged six to eighteen from low-income families, had been looking for a location in Panama City Beach to expand their outreach.

In need of a facility to house their after-school program, Girls Inc. approached Christ Our Savior, which is located next to an elementary school. Christ Our Savior’s building will provide a convenient, safe location, with several Sunday school classrooms that will be used for the program’s activities, serving approximately 40 girls. Christ Our Savior members are looking at ways to support the girls and their families and to demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways.

Christ Our Savior also partnered with Thrivent Financial to host a screening of the new film, “Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed the World.” On May 9, approximately 100 moviegoers gathered at a local theater to view the hour-and-a-half-long documentary. Featuring interviews with professors, theologians, and authors (including Rev. Dr. Matthew Harrison, Dr. Gerhard Bode, and Dr. Erik Hermann), the movie highlights the influence Luther had not only on religion, but also on politics, society, and culture. Congregations interested in hosting a screening of this film, which was produced in conjunction with the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation, can do so by going to newluthermovie.com/lcms/. Hosting a screening is free and a portion of ticket sales will be returned to the host congregation.
